This paper discusses a number of vibro-acoustical modeling techniques which allow to address the problem of the control configuration in active noise control applications. This includes a number of issues, as actuator specification, actuator location and number, reference or feedforward sensor location and feedback sensor location. The tools which are used to perform this control configuration assessment include structure-borne transfer path analysis, principal component analysis, multiple coherence analysis, and matrix based optimisation calculations. The application which is addressed is a station-wagon for which an active road noise cancellation system by active vibration control techniques at the suspension-car body connection is developed.
