Management of Diseases and Syndromes in a Closed Psittacine Nursery

This master class will go over the diseases and syndromes encountered in a closed psittacine nursery despite intense husbandry and preventative medicine. Avicultural Breeding and Research Center's management protocol will serve as a role model for this discussion. The diseases and syndromes encountered in the year 1998 will be listed and their medical management discussed. Nursery survivability in 1998 (92.2%) and corresponding mortality (7.8%) will be compared with the 5 previous years (1993-1997),and with 1999. Post-mortem histopathology for 1998 will also be reviewed.
