A New Software Architecture in Designing Multiprotocol Router

摘要

With the development of Internet, routers are undergoing great changes. But the traditional software architecture in routers can't keep up with these changes. In this paper, we first introduce the new development of router, then analyze the characteristic of traditional router software. Finally, a new kind of software architecture in designing router software is proposed. In this architecture, software in router is divided into several functional units, each of which is implemented by one distributed thread. Components of the architecture and communication methods between them are given. The whole system can be managed and configured through unified interface. We believe that great improvement in scalability, manageability and efficiency can be achieved by using this new architecture.
