The scabbing of thick plates as a result of explosive loading has been studied by researchers world over. These scabs have high kinetic energy and posses high damage potential. This paper describes a method which reduces this damage potential through use of explosively clad metal plates. Such behaviour has been observed with mild steel-mild steel, mild steel-copper, mild steel-stainless steel dads. The results have been analyzed in the light of bond interface microstructure.
