摘要

Aerobic cometabolism of chlorinated solvents by microbial communities has been well documented in lab and field scale studies over the past 20 years. For both direct and cometabolic oxidation, because the contaminants are completely mineralized, the only evidence for degradation has been the disappearance of the contaminants themselves. The purpose of the proposed demonstration was to apply a diverse suite of innovative molecular, enzyme activity probes, and carbon isotope assays, in combination with standard groundwater chemistry, to provide direct evidence for intrinsic and/or aerobic degradation mechanisms.
