Lessons Learned From Remedial Applications in Pierre Shale at Ft Carson, Colorado Springs, CO(ABSTRACT)

Ft Carson has multiple groundwater plumes with variety contaminants present. In situ remedies including ISCO using potassium permanganate and alkaline activated persulfate and ERD have been applied to plumes in the site wide Pierre shale and overburden. Varying success has been achieved due to the limitations of influencing the fractures of the weathered Pierre shale. An evaluation of the in situ remedies and the effects of the site conditions on the remedial approached will be presented.
