Carbon short fiber reinforced silicon carbide composites can be produced by a fast and cost effective method of compounding fibres, powder fillers and additives with subsequent pressure moulding and thermal treatment with metal infiltration with one step thermal processing. The application of water swelling polymer binders with easy non sensitive pyrolysis to CO_2 and H_2O, as harmless byproducts, allows processing without a separate carbonization step. Therefore the total run through times in manufacturing are shortened and the production can be highly competitive. Near net shape disks were obtained using a computer controlled hydraulic press with precision tools in cycle times less than 1 minute.
