Environmental concerns and regulations are pushing industry to re-think common approaches in fabricating commonplace products. Waterborne adhesives represent one of these new avenues of approach. The research generated to date has indicated that the surfactant's interactions with the substrate, aqueous phase, and polymer all have the potential to influence the final adhesive properties. Further understanding of how the surfactant interacts with the water and at the epoxy-glass interface is needed to make an assessment of the potential durability of these types of composites.
