An investigation of gasoline parameters for motorcycle emission reduction was conducted. MTBE, ethanol, and aromatic contents were parameters of interest. A test program was carried out on an engine test bed using steady state test conditions. Ten fuels and three motorcycle engines were selected for the program. Results show that gasoline with 5% MTBE can help reduce regulated and unregulated emissions. Analysis of cylinder pressure data also confirms that low cycle-to-cycle variations and fast burning are attained by using gasoline with 5% MTBE. Results also reveal that catalytic converters work inefficiently due mainly to low motorcycle exhaust temperatures.
