摘要

A new type of rheometer, capable of determining the viscoelastic properties of hydrated biomaterials, has been designed. The key features of the design are its ability to test small sample volumes and to retain the presence of a hydrating layer.The rheometer uses a piezoelectric actuator and sensor to induce an oscillatory stress in the gel and to measure the corresponding strain. The efficacy of the design is confirmed using experimental results and a finite element model.
