The phase shift characteristics of the oscillating flow regenerator inside a high frequency miniature pulse tube cooler were investigated experimentally in this paper. The oscillating flow was established by means of a self-made linear compressor connected to the inlet of the regenerator through a velocity straightener. Experimental results showed that the phase shift characteristics depend on many factors, such as regenerator materials, mesh size, operating frequency, mean pressure and the outlet condition. The phase shifts between the velocity and pressure wave were obtained and discussed in the paper.
