This paper presents a design procedure of a leg fixing device for fixed type jackup rigs based on the element strengths research* and newly added analytical results concerning the leg fixing device. As key techniques for the design procedure, a simplified method to estimate the load distribution among the rack teeth and that to estimate the elasto-plastic hot spot tooth fillet strains including a frictional effect are precisely described. Further, this paper presents the optimized design result of the leg fixing device intended to make the rack tooth quantity smaller with varying the rigidities of the leg fixing device.
