Histological studies in clinical cases on interface bioactive bone cement interposing ha granules between bone and pmma bone cement

In order to improve the bone interface problems of PMMA bone cement in orthopaedic surgery we have used the interface bioactive bone cement technique (IBBC) by interposing 0 to 2 layers of HA granules of 100 to 300 mu m in diameter, between bone and PMMA bone cement. This is done by smearing HA granules on the bone surface at cementation in about two thousands cases since 1987. Very few radiolucent lines appeared at the interface between bone and PMMA bone cement on the radiograph even after ten years. Three ceses were retrieved due to late infections and loosening between the metal back of the socket and bone cement one to ten years after surgery.
