Cooling Water Chlorine Addition Strategies: One Plant's Experience

After four years of acceptable results, shock chlorination of the cooling tower at 95 MWe (nominal gross) steam power generating facility no longer provided protection from microbiological growth. Switching to continuous chlorination has resulted in the elimination of microbiological problems in nine months of operation since the switch was made.
