Lithospheric Fabric of the Qinghai - Tibet Plateau

The Telhyim-Himalayan domain is a gigantic erogenic complex of "convergence-intracontinental subduction type" , which is culled the Tethyan-Ilimalayan erogenic complex. Based on the lithospheric texture, structure and present dynamic system, three types of lithospheric fabric are recognized: the Himalayan thrust -superposition typc.the Qinghai-Tibct strike-slip - stretching type and the Kunlun-Altun-Qilian thrust -spreading type. The deep processes in the complex revealed by the characteristics of the Cenozoic deformation and lithospheric fabric are: bidirectional subduction and N-S asymmetrical spreading in the foreland and backland; and deep-level thermal-uplift stretching and E-W asymmetrical spreading in the hinterland. Accord-ing to their formation mechanism and orogenesis, the mountain chains of the complex can be divided into three genetic types: Himalayan type,Gangdise type and Kunlun (or Qilian) type.
