Tang impact structure was firstly discovered through the interpretation of Japanese Earth Resources Satellite -JERS-1 SAR image. It shows up as a bright semicircle ring on the JERS-1 SAR image. Then ground evidences give the confidence. The microscope and electron microscope observation of the rock samples collected in the field confirms the existence of impact structure. This paper introduces the geological features of Tang impact structure and its SAR image characteristics as well. Except for JERS-1 SAR. data, ERS-1 SAR and SIR-C/X-SAR data have also been applied to this study. The spaceborne SAR imaging mechanism of the impact structure is analyzed with the SAR image simulation to demonstrate the relationship of SAR image features and the SAR illumination direction.
