Influence of personality traits on residential behavior in a noise urban area

Behavioral changes represent the important harmful effects of community noise. Among these, closing the windows facing the street and residential moving are considered as relevant indicators of the existence of noise problems in a community [1].However, people differ in behavioral reactions to noise. The influence of personality factors on these reactions is still not well known. This study was undertaken in order to clarify the relationship between personality, namely the traits of extra-introversion, neuroticism and subjective noise sensitivity, and behavioral reactions to noise. These findings might be of importance forpredicting long term effects of noise.
