An overview of noise management in the west Australian mining industry

The Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations 1995 provide basis for noise control work in the West Australian mines. The paper highlights legislative requirements aiming to prevent miners from noise induced hearing loss (NIHL) through workexposure. It also describes the current status on compliance with the above legislation. Over the last four years, mines inspectors measured noise exposure of 301 miners involved in a wide range of surface and underground activities. Findings from thesemeasurements are also included in this paper.
