A noise and vibration annoyance problem has existed for some time in an office and conference facility at a major industrial plant site. Vipac Engineers & Scientists were engaged to investigate the problem and recommend appropriate treatments foran engineering solution.A large multi-storey industrial plant (IP) building on the site contains a moving tripper and a series of vibratory feeders and vibratory screens in addition to conveyers and storage bins. The office/conference (OC) building is situated about 150 metres from the P building. The intervening land is flat and predominantly covered in asphalt with no substantial obstacles along the line-of-sight. In addition, there is a large overhead conveyor system that passes about 10 metres above the OC building.Workers in the OC building, particularly users of the Conference Room, have been complaining of unusually high or annoying levels of vibration (primarily rattling of ceiling panels) and noise (affecting comfort and communication).
