Creation of life support systems for the lunar outpost and planetary bases: history, present state of research in Russia (former Soviet Union) and prospects

To create operating biological regeneration systems capable of maintaining human life activity is an exceptionally complicated and expensive engineering-medical-biological problem that has no precedence in resolution. The capability to resolve this will require the work of large research teams uniting experts from many fields of science and technology.
