Comminution of scrap and metals by shredders

No process investigations on the comminution inshredders have been carried out to date. Our own investigationshow that very complex distortion and comminution processestake place in the comminution chamber. Comminution is basedespecially on tensile strain combined with bending and flexing,as well as bending and compressive shearing of the stressedpiece. By this and depending on the physical composition of thematerial, the comminution chamber in shredders should bedesigned so that it is possible to meet the demands on thecomminution product (degree of dissociation, fragment sizedistribution, degree of compaction) to the greatest possible extent.
