The carrier flotation of ultrafine wolframite (-5#mu#m) was investigated using coarse wolframite as carrier ina sodium oleate collector system. The amount of sodium oleateand metal ion, the size and percentage of carrier and theapparent particle size distribution were examined in the carrierflotation. It was found that the recovery of ultrafine wolframitesignificantly increased from about 43 percent in conventionalflotation to 78 percent in carrier flotation. Furthermore, therecovery increased from 78 percent to about 97 percent incarrier flotation by addition of Fe~(3+) or Pb~ (2+) ion. Inaddition, some fundamental aspects involved in carrier flotationare also discussed.
