The phosphate ore from Arafertil, Araxa, MG,Brazil, presents barite veins. Barite must be depressed togetherwith the other gangue minerals (a difficult practice) or prefloated. Results of the technical-economical evaluation of afeasibility study of barite flotation in an industrial column arepresented. The design of the industrial unit was based on theprocessing of data from pilot scale column flotation experimentson line with the concentrator, by means of computer modellingand simulation. The reduction of reagents consumption, thedecrease of apatite loss and the increase of the circuit operatingflexibility yielded a payback period of the investment of one year.
