Utilization of sewage-sludge ashes in the brick and tile industry

摘要

Several aspects of using ashes from sewagesludge incineration in the brick and tile industry have beenexamined. After discussing the issue of ash production inGermany, the impact of different wastewater treatment methodsis described; for instance, the use of precipitation agentscontaining iron will considerably influence the ash quality.Depending on their respective chemical composition, differentashes have different effects on the ceramic qualities of the bricksmade of material blended with ashes. These effects are shown inregard to the major ceramic parameters. Similarly, the quality ofthe ashes also influences the elution behaviour and the mineralfixation of heavy metals.
