Electrostatic separation and its industrial application for the processing of different mixtures of recycling materials

Electrostatic separators had been used in themineral industry for separating different ores and minerals forconcentrating one fraction since a long time. Nowadays thiskind of technology becomes more and more important in therecycling industry. In this paper principles of electrostaticseparation in the recycling industry, especially the differenttypes of charging, are reviewed and the advantages are pointedout. Experiences with applications in the recycling industry arepresented as follows: Separation of metals from all kind ofrecycling materials, separation of PE and EVOH in the recyclingof barrier polymer from car tanks, separation of PVC-impuritiesfrom PET from bottle recycling and the recycling of cardashboards. In an outlook possible separation tasks for theelectrostatic principles are summarised.
