Technologies for the Recovery, Separation and Elimination of Complexing Agents in the Metal and Surface Finishing Industries

Complexing agents are chemical components which are used for different reasons in surface finishing process solutions and electroplating operations. One of the characteristics of these agents is the formation of metal complexes, which keep metals soluble under chemical conditions where the metals would otherwise be precipitated. If these chemicals are present in process or rinse water, the water treatment process might not remove critical metals to levels within required discharge limitations. This presentation will discuss some of the commonly used complexing chemicals in surface finishing operations and their influence on metals, and will discuss some recycling and waste water treatment techniques.
