Recent Width Reduction Technique and Facilities

The width reduction facilities which have newly emerged in the latest 10 years in connection with width rolling are, any of them, of a hot strip mill line. These facilities include an enhanced width reduction press (hereinafter referred to as a "Sizing Press") for slab width sizing and an edger between finishing mill stands. In the meantime, AWC function additional work is still, of course, being conducted in the domestic existing lines to modify an attached edger of a roughing mill into a hy-drauiically operated one. However, this will not be taken up here since the hardware technique has been almost established and the entire technique may well be said to have matured, though a higher level of width accuracy by the software technique is now being called for.
