The linear induction motor in transit: a systmes view

The Linear Induction motor (LIM) is an AC motor in which the stator and rotor have bene separated with the former susally installed on the vehicle and the latter installed on the guideway.Because the stator or wound part of the motor is usually referred to as the LIM,this approach is described as LIM-on-vehicle.Certain applciations reverse this arrangement and are called LIM-in-track.In both cases,thrust is transmitted through the air gap by amgnetic flux,produced by three-phase currents,rather than through a shaft/gearbox/wheel arrangement of the conventional rotary motor.
