In this paper, design procedure implemented to install a 450kW rooftop solar plant at KLS GIT, Belgaum is discussed. The connection procedure and economics of such plant is discussed. India quenches its power thirst through various sources of power. Thermal power is considered to be prime source and is about 62.8% of total installed capacity. Nowadays, the country is shifting towards the production of power using renewable sources. Since former causes carbon emission and latter, as India is in the tropical region, it gives an option for generating electricity through solar energy with minimal cost involved. Power generation through solar is gaining popularity in recent days amongst other RES as it directly gets involved in decreasing the carbon footprint. Despite all the advantages that solar generation has, land availability is always one of the prime issues. Hence, this makes Rooftop solar installation as an existing efficient solution. Considering this fact, KLS GIT understanding the need and also making an attempt to utilize adequate free space on the rooftop of their building, took an initiative to install 450 KW rooftop solar plant. KLS GIT will generate 6, 57, 000 units per year for a life period of 25 years, resulting in a reduction of the total electricity bill of Institution by 76%. By the end of 3 years, the plant will pay off the investment and start generating profit. Also, this installation may benefit charging electrical vehicles of students, teaching staff on college premises.
