By using models of the discrete control of a continuous variablesystem proposed by Chase-Serrano (1993), the effect of the limitedprocessing time of a server on the oscillation of the buffer state hasbeen investigated. It has made clear that chaotic phenomena and severalperiodic oscillations in the buffer state can be observed. It has beenreported in Chase-Serrano that chaos will occur in switched arrivalsystem. Moreover, it is shown that, for a sufficiently small value ofthe limited processing time, chaos can be suppressed. Moreover, it hasmade clear that the variation range of the buffer state becomes smalleras the limited processing time decreases. From these results, it can beconcluded that taking the limited processing time of a server intoconsideration is very important to investigate the dynamical behavior ofa manufacturing system
