An actuator for mounting surface mounted devices on printedcircuit boards was designed and implemented. The designed systemsatisfies the requirements. It was possible to use a constant frequencycontrol due to the small time constant of the motor, compared to thetime constant of the servo system. A new rotation sensor based onpolarization of light was developed that can measure the rotation of atranslating shaft.
