A Study on the Space Usability Driven Design of the Ancestral Temple of Xihu Village from the Perspective of Spatial Syntax

The courtyard space of Ancestral Temple building is a public space for villagers to gather and discuss, and is also an important carrier of local villagers' cultural life. With the advancement of China's urbanization, the decline of Ancestral Temple has become increasingly prominent. Taking Xihu village in Jieyang city, Guangdong province as an example, this paper discussed the method of Ancestral Temple space renewal through the investigation of village landscape intention and space syntax analysis, In this study, effective samples were collected through in-depth interviews and cognitive intention maps, and spatial intention element data of different groups were incorporated into spatial syntax statistical analysis to explore the internal relations among spatial morphology, spatial cognition and environmental behavior. Based on the data analysis, the paper put forward three renewal strategies of "integration of the old and the new", "integration of point and line" and "temple-centered", and evaluated the synergy of syntax in Ancestral Temple space renewal practice through graphic simulation.
