A Preliminary Study on the Protection Range of Urban Flood Prevention Wall: Taking Suzhou River in Shanghai as an Example

Many large cities in China are built and developed along the rivers, and the flood prevention walls on both sides of the rivers are necessary to protect the cities from flood. In order to ensure the structural safety, meet the requirements of daily management, and coordinate the engineering construction on both sides of the river, it is necessary to delimit a reasonable protection range for flood prevention walls. Based on the example of Suzhou River in Shanghai, this paper studies the effects of the stacking load and foundation pit excavation on the safety of the flood prevention walls, the space needed for the maintenance and renovation of the flood prevention wall, and the influence of pile foundation construction on surrounding structures. It is suggested that the protection range of Suzhou River flood prevention wall should not be less than 15m. This study can provide reference for delimiting the protection range of flood prevention walls in similar urban area.
