A 10 MHz low pass filter (LPF) using surface mount technology (SMT) has been successfully created. This LPF is a 7-order pole elliptic-type filter, with stopband width of about 30% in 13 MHz frequency range, and 60 dB stopband depth. This filter is designed to pass the video signal output from a detector logarithmic video amplifier (DLVA) of a 2-18 GHz mobile Electronic Support Measure (ESM) which has a transient voltage that may cause misinterpretation in the signal processing. The SMT is used to provide a more compact dimensions of the circuit as well as a good quality (Q) factor. This paper contains planning, simulation, realization, and measurement of the filter. From the result, the LPF fulfills the specification and able to enhance the performance of DLVA output by reducing the transient voltage, compared to without the LPF. Hence, the upcoming misinterpretation of the signal by the digital signal processor can be minimized.
