A study on the health effects of aircraft noise on residents living around Tan Son Nhat International Airport

Tan Son Nhat International Airport (TIA) is the largest airport in Vietnam with more than 700 flight movements per day and surrounded by densely populated districts in Ho Chi Minh City. A high level of aircraft noise with enhanced night operation at nighttime is harming the residents' health. A questionnaire survey, blood pressure measurement, and noise estimation and measurement were conducted to clarify the health effects of aircraft noise at 12 sites around TIA. Among the investigated health consequences, including annoyance, sleep disturbance, blood pressure, hearing ability, physical and mental health, annoyance was found to correlate with aircraft noise levels. No significant association was found with others.
