A simulator-based study of the effects of steady and turbulent atmospheric motion on the calibration and operation of a derived angle-of-attack estimation algorithm was conducted. The algorithm is briefly described, as is the test framework. The relative magnitude of changes in the average error in estimated angle-of-attack over a sequence of simulated flight maneuvers of a general aviation airplane were identified for one-at-a-time parameter variations for steady horizontal winds, steady vertical winds, two levels of light turbulence, and for various accuracies of trim for calibration. The effect of airspeed calibration errors (biases) is examined.
