Carousel security management and cargo deck tracking of passenger baggage using wireless technology

The use of wireless technology has permeated every sphere of our lives and across all cross sections of society. Whether it is at the personal level or for the public good, wireless technology has evolved over the years to provide efficient systems to improve the quality of life on the planet. While there are a host of wireless technologies available today catering to applications in the Medical Field, Transportation, Consumer Electronics, Industrial Automation, Security Electronics, Mobile Telephony and many more, in this paper we focus on an application area of two popularly used wireless technologies, namely Radio Frequency Identification [RFID] and ZigBee. Both these technologies find extensive use in a wide range of applications; however this paper in particular will discuss the confluence of the two technologies to achieve two principal goals - Carousel Security Management of Passenger Baggage at Airports, while checking out and Tracking of Passenger Baggage in the Cargo Deck while seated in the Aeroplane. The aim here is to ensure the safety of passenger baggage on the carousel and also ensure the peace of mind of the passenger seated in the plane as he will now be assured that his baggage is in the cargo deck of the plane in which he is travelling and not misplaced elsewhere.
