摘要

Due to the tremendous increase in use of wifi, the efficient use of available frequency spectrum has been a challenging issue. Wifi networks which are managed by non network specialist are called uncoordinated WLANs. The performance of uncoordinated WLANs can be greatly affected due to interference from neighboring uncoordinated WLANs and also due to the availability of limited number of non-overlapping channels in WiFi. Assigning a particular frequency channel to each access point is termed as channel assignment and efficient channel assignment techniques can improve the performance of uncoordinated WLANs. Wifi become more popular primarily due to its unlicensed frequency band of operation. This may lead to many interference issues, mainly co-channel interference. So it is necessary to address the interference challenges with proper channel assignment techniques. This proposal aims at the efficient use of all the available frequency channels in the wifi spectrum, with reduced interference effects and to maximize the throughput with necessary channel assignment algorithm. The proposed work is simulated using OPNET Modeler simulator and its performance is analyzed.
