In this paper, an approach of using graph theory to construct and assess power conversion architectures (PCAs) is investigated. First, components in power conversion systems (PCSs) are graphically modelled. Then, a systematic method of using graph theory to deduce PCAs is proposed. Furthermore, a battery system is presented to demonstrate the whole process and the possible PCAs for the battery system are obtained with the proposed method. Then, an evaluation method based on graph theory is proposed. Finally, an optimization approach of finding the best architecture compromise in terms of three objectives is detailed and the best compromise for the battery system is found.
