Three different carrying systems were evaluated using a range of ergonomics methods. Four focus groups were completed with paramedics to identify design issues. A clinical scenario based user trial explored usability and postural requirements, and a laboratory trial compared the physiological demands. This multi-faceted investigation found that all 3 carrying systems had positive features that need to be considered for the final design specification. An optimal carrying system would combine elements of both the Green rucksack and CURE systems to design an effective clinical and efficient physically carrying system.
