The relationship between vegetation coverage and groundwater level was built in the study area according to investigation data. The spatial and temporal variation of groundwater levels was simulated by FEFLOW from 1980 to 2010. Temporal-spatial distribution of Potential vegetation in the study area was estimated using the relationship combining with spatial distribution of groundwater level. The results of coverage estimated were validated by Landsat TM data. the lower reaches of Heihe River Basin
