The mill wide inventory prediction model and scheduling optimizer provides pulp and paper mill operations a coordinated look into the future. The tools offer a single place for pulp and paper mills to collect current process conditions, machine schedules and information about known future rate changes or outages. This information is combined with grade recipes in a process model to provide liquor and stock predictions in a user configurable time range. The mill wide inventory prediction model can be used with the scheduling optimizer to come up with the best schedule. All scenarios analyzed with the offline model and optimizer are considered temporary. A built in grade schedule editor of the offline inventory prediction model allows the user to modify not only the order of upcoming grades but the composition and run characteristics of any grade in the schedule. This flexibility allows a resource coordinator or operator to easily see the effects of any proposed changes on the mill. All scenarios executed on the off-line prediction are considered temporary. A "golden" mill wide scenario can be saved by posting it to the master schedule. The master schedule is used by the on-line applications to continually project inventories, generate alarms, etc. These projections can then be viewed at the control room.
