The Origin of the Style of QUE:The Study of the Images of Chinese Gate Towers Appeared in the Pictorial Stones of Han Dynasty (Ⅰ)

摘要

Chinese traditional wood architecture of Han Dynasty has almost vanished by now. We can only reconstruct the history of architecture of that period by the stone gate towers that still remain on the ground and other indirect materials such as building models of funeral objects, and some literal and visual materials. This paper intends to study a particular type of architecture-“Gate Towers” (Que)-once prevailed in Han Dynasty and later disappeared or substituted. This research mainly based on the visual materials of pictorial stones.
