Results from a study performed to verify the effect of a precoat layer on the final printability of a double layer coated paper are presented and analysed. The five different conditions are to verify what occurs if the 100 parts pigment is changed in the precoat and substituted for PCC, Brazilian clay and different GCC particle sizes and particle size distributions. For each condition, three different topcoats were applied. The topcoat modification was the latex where Carb/SB, SA and S/A/ACN molecules were used resulting in 3 sets of samples for each group. All these samples were calendered to the same gloss level and a Deltack laboratory printing test was performed on each one. A total of fifteen conditions were analysed and compared.
