We study a process of iterative human calligraphic learning experimentally using our dynamic font method as the basic tool. Two types of sample calligraphic writings, to be called ‘static’ and ‘dynamic’ ones, are shown to examinees for the comparative studies. The static one is just a copy of model writing in a copybook, and its dynamic counterpart is developed. The calligraphic writing experiments are performed using a pen-tablet device, and the measured 3-dimensional time series data are used to construct characters by employing the theory of smoothing splines based on the minimum hand jerk model. We analyze the iterative learning process using the constructed characters.
