Single cell Li-Ion battery is a preferred voltage source for various portable equipments likePDAs, cellular phones and digital still cameras (DSCs).The biggest challenges in defining an IC for Li-Ion battery charging are the choice of the bestcharging approach and and the ability to provide monitoring and control function to the hostsystem in order to optimize the charging process and protect the battery from harmfulconditions.This paper, after a brief illustration of the recharge requirements and techniques for Li-Ion/Polymer batteries, describes a new IC tailored to battery chargers for single Li-Ion/Polymer batteries. In particular, it provides very innovative design solutions and therelated application advantages.The paper also provides test results in real application conditions.
