In consideration of small variations of material, geometry properties and loading parameters, the stochastic governing differential equations for beam problems are decomposed by the first approximation method into two sets of governing differential equations corresponding to mean responses and deviations, respectively. Based on the similarity between the above two sets of equations, the stochastic singular-points-outside-domain (SPOD) method for beam structures is proposed by the use of the conventional fundamental solutions, together with the SPOD and multi-domain techniques. The proposed method is further applied to the stochastic analysis of a long-span cable-stayed bridge during erection, which indicates the good prospects with respect to the application of the method to practical engineering.
