Abstract: Precise control of temperature is needed inpharmaceutical glass containers manufacture during thedifferent stages of moulding process. A slightlyincorrect temperature produces dimensional tolerancesabove the allowed limits in pharmaceutical industry.The paper introduces the complete development of aninfrared measurement system which measures thetemperature for the different critical points inmoulding process. This system is able to measuretemperatures between 500 degrees Celsius and 1300degrees Celsius for maximum rates about 150 containersper minute and 2 mm focus diameter. The system detectsthe presence of a container directly through themeasurement, without needing any proximity detectors.During the usage, the system has showed highreliability and repeatability in its measurements,becoming an essential system for both the adjustingstage of the machine and the supervision of itsworking. The paper analyses the keys of the design,including the sensor even the measurement analysissoftware, highlighting the main factors which determinethe repeatability in measurements, as this is the mostimportant parameter in order to assure a correctmachine supervision. !5
