An intensive indoor particle monitoring study was conducted in four homes in the Boston area during the winter and spring of 1996 to characterize and model indoor particle sources. Data, collected for one or two six day periods in each home during 1996-1997, consisted principally of indoor and outdoor continuous particle size measurements made using the Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer (SMPS) measurements were made with the Tapered Element Oscillating microbalance (TEOM) and Harvard Impactors, respectively. Other data collected included air exchange rates and meteorological measurements (i.e., indoor and outdoor temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and wind direction). Detailed information on activities impacting particle generation were recorded in a home activity diary. Additional housing information was obtained through an administered questionnaire, while data on ventilation (e.g. heat use and open windows) was collected using a ventilation log.
