In this paper, a new dual-band filter for chipless RFID tag coding based on the spectral signature technique is proposed. Employing the matryoshka geometry introduced in Frequency Selective Surfaces (FSS) works, the dual-band matryoshka resonator represents two data bits on the frequency spectrum using a single resonant element. The basic structure and the expressions to estimate the frequency responses are described. As a proof-of-concept, three chipless RFID multi-resonators are designed to operate in microwave range with 8-bit of data capacity. The simulated and measured results show a good concordance and a great potential to increase the information density of chipless RFID applications.
